In the previous month’s blog, we focussed on some water saving tips in the garden.

Water saving is not limited or restricted to a single area. In fact, we can save a large amount of water while doing the laundry as well. Let us follow these simple tips and save water as much as we can. Let us get started.

Reuse towels:

The bath towels that we use every day does not need to be washed every day. Instead, we can hang it after using it in the sun outside to dry. The same towel can be easily used for a couple of times without actually washing it.

Use energy saver washing machines:

There are many energy saver machines available in the market. When you go to buy a washing machine, do check for this feature. These machines use less water and less energy with the help of advanced technology.

Use machine when fully loaded:

Do not run the machine for a small pile of dirty clothes. Keep it aside and let a bigger pile build up to be washed it all together. It does not make sense to wash fewer clothes and make the machine run again and again. This way both water and energy will be saved.

Wear clothes more than once if not dirty:

Some clothes can be easily worn twice or more without actually washing it every time you wear it. For example, jeans or a sweat jacket. These clothes can be hanged to dry under the sun and can be worn again.

Use less hot water and more cold water:

Turning cold water into hot water consumes a lot of energy and water gets wasted too. So, use water that is available – warm or cold and save on water energy costs.

Pre-treat stains before washing:

Some bad stains need to be treated before washing them with a stain remover using hands or a brush. In the first wash itself these stains will come out and you need not wash the same clothes again and waste water unnecessarily.

Check for leaks at regular intervals:

The fittings and connections might leak over time. It needs to be checked at regular intervals to fix and repair any such leaks.

Collect rain and grey water:

Start collecting rainwater and grey water as these can be used to wash the stairs or cars or any such things outside the home. It can also be used to water the plants.

So, start saving while doing laundry. Penguin Tank, a renowned plastic water storage tank manufacturer highly recommends the same.
