The countdown has begun to celebrate Republic Day yet again in the brand New Year of 2019. 26th January 1950 is the day when the Constitution of India came into force, completing the country’s transition toward becoming an independent republic. This day created history as India was declared as a democratic republic nation and Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as the First President of India. Since then, we celebrate this day as the Republic Day by proudly flying our tricolour Indian National Flag and by singing our National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana…’

Let us be the change we want to see in our country. Any change that you want to bring in for good, starts from your surroundings such as your home, your workplace and your neighbourhood. How about starting with water? Water contamination is a serious issue at present in India and it needs to be addressed both on an individual basis and on the whole. Water gets contaminated due to several reasons such as natural calamities such as earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, algae blooms etc., Manmade pollution from municipal and industrial activities is also one of the major reasons of water contamination. There are many different sources of water including rainwater, surface water, and groundwater. Any pollutants in the water can affect our overall health and become a huge hindrance to our overall social and economic development. To find out those pollutants, implement the following on a regular basis.

Check the water: Keep your senses open and check for an indifferent taste, smell or color of the water that you are using. This is the simplest way to keep a track on water on a daily basis.

Get a testing kit: Water testing kit is easily available in the market. Buy one and follow the instructions and just in few steps, find out whether the water is contaminated or not.

Check with a lab: If you are unable to test the water yourself for any such reason, send a sample of water in a lab and get it tested.

Connect with the local water supplier: If you have any doubts related to the water that you are using, contact the local water supplier and get hold of a water quality report.

Follow these and also keep an eye on the water storage tanks where the water is kept on a regular basis. Plastic water storage tanks from Penguin Tank are the best.
